The U.S. Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) requires states to report on postsecondary outcomes for students with disabilities.

Percent of youth who are no longer in secondary school, had IEPs in effect at the time they left school, and were:

A. Enrolled in higher education within one year of leaving high school.
B. Enrolled in higher education or competitively employed within one year of leaving high school.
C. Enrolled in higher education or in some other postsecondary education or training program; or competitively employed or in some other employment within one year of leaving high school.

(20 U.S.C. 1416(a)(3)(B))

District Responsibilities

  • The state contracts with Wayne State University to collect and report data through a survey. Therefore, districts do not have any required responsibilities.

  • The survey is administered to the students of one-third of the local school districts of each intermediate school district on a rotating basis.

2022 Districts in Cohort 3:  Howell, Kensington Woods High School, CSPA, Light of the World Academy

2023 Districts in Cohort 1:  Brighton, Pinckney, Flex Tech High School

2021 Districts in Cohort 2:  LESA, Fowlerville, Hartland

The deployment is scheduled to take place during the spring/summer. The survey process will begin with the deployment of pre-survey notifications in late February, followed by survey administration from mid-March through August.

Parents and/or former students will receive pre-survey notifications, survey mailings, and telephone calls from the WSU research staff.

In order to improve response rates, blue mailing cards from Wayne State University have been provided to high schools to share with Senior students at their final IEP.  Completion can be done at the IEP meeting and left with the school personnel for mailing to Wayne State University.
